In the Bay of Bengal, thousand Kms off the coast of India, The Andaman and Nicobar Islands comprises 512 tropical islands (of which 36 inhabited). The Andaman offers a welcom respite with plenty of opportunities ti simply relax or to get physical by trekking or Snorkelling. Unfortunately the Nicobar islands are not opened to the tourist while while geographically close to Mayanmar. Politically The Andaman and Nicobar Islands forms the Union Territory of India. The islands are accessible by boat and plane from Chennai and Kolkata with an infrequent boat services from Vishakhapatnam even though they are 1000 Kms last of the mainlands.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS IN ANDAMAN

Port Blair, the capital city spreads around a harbour on the east coast of South Andaman. The islands have many things to offer which are as follows:

CELLULAR JAIL NATIONAL MUSEUM

Built by the British over a period of 18 years from 1890, it is a pilgrimage site for freedom fighters. Now dedicated to the nation as a national monument. The story of the heroic freedom struggle is depicted through sound and light, which are held daily at 6.00 pm (Hindi) and 7.15 pm (English). Apart from this, there is also a museum, an art gallery and a photo gallery, which is open on all days from 9.00 pm to 12 noon on Mondays and 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm.

SAMUDRIKA MARINE MUSEUM

Run by the Indian Navy, this museum displays informative displays of the island.
